Every comparison on Verbary follows the same process. Before we recommend anything, we work through the course ourselves and measure it against the same standards — regardless of whether we earn from it.
Our process, step by step
We start from zero with each course, just like a new learner. We track method, time commitment per day, and how much the first month actually teaches. Then we map the results against the advertised promises.
What we measure
- Method: audio-first, app-based, or explanation-first — and who it suits.
- Price: total cost to a functional level, not just the monthly number.
- Progress: how soon a beginner produces real sentences, not just taps.
- Translation: whether the criticism appears next to the recommendation.
Why we publish the downsides
Most review sites are ranked by commission: the course that pays most sits on top. We publish who each course is wrong for, including for courses we earn from. If that costs us a commission, it is worth it.
The promise
If a cheaper option suits you better, we will say so. Our rankings follow the method-to-person match, not the affiliate payout.
