Affiliate Disclosure

Last updated: 18 August 2026

The short version

Verbary earns a commission when you buy a course through one of our links. It costs you nothing extra. Commission rates do not affect our rankings — if a course we earn nothing from is the better fit for you, that is what we will tell you.

How it works

Some of the links on this site are affiliate links. When you click one and go on to purchase, the company pays us a percentage of the sale. You pay the same price you would have paid going direct — the commission comes out of the merchant's margin, not your pocket.

This is how Verbary is funded. We don't charge for access, and we don't run paywalls.

We currently participate in affiliate programmes including ClickBank and the affiliate programmes of individual course providers. This list changes as we add or drop partners.

What commission does not buy

A better ranking

No course can pay to be placed higher, recommended more often, or reviewed more favourably. Where we earn more from one option than another, we say so on the page.

A mention

We decide what to review based on what readers are asking about, not on who has an affiliate programme. Where a course has no affiliate programme at all, we still cover it — Duolingo is a good example.

Silence about problems

Every review we publish names who the course is wrong for. If a cheaper option or a competitor suits your situation better, we say that plainly, including in reviews where we earn a commission on the more expensive choice.

How we form an opinion

We use free trials, buy courses where necessary, and read what other reviewers and long-term users report. We check prices ourselves rather than repeating the merchant's marketing, and we date every price so you know how current it is.

We are not a laboratory and we do not pretend to be. Where our view is based on a free trial rather than completing a full course, we say so in the review.

Where you'll see this disclosed

Every page containing affiliate links carries a disclosure near the top of the page, before any recommendation. We think a disclosure buried in a footer is not really a disclosure.

Why we bother saying all this

The language-learning affiliate space is full of sites that rank courses by commission rate and call it a review. It works, and it makes readers worse off. Publishing the criticism alongside the recommendation costs us some conversions and it is the only version of this business we're interested in running.

If you ever find something on this site that reads like it was written for the commission rather than for you, tell us: info@verbary.co
